RE:                  Updates from California State University San Marcos

DATE:            July 17, 2008

In an effort to continue to provide updates from California State University San Marcos, I would like to share the following news from the campus which may be of interest to you and the students with whom you work.

Fall 2008

CSU San Marcos concluded the review of upper division applicants who applied during the priority application period in late May.  New students who have confirmed their plans to attend CSU San Marcos are attending orientation programs which will continue throughout the months of July and August.  We will continue to review our ability to consider additional transfer applicants who submitted their application after the priority application period and notify applicants accordingly.

Spring 2009

As you know, the State of California is facing an unprecedented budget situation which will reduce allocations to nearly all public agencies.  Our campus is preparing for unprecedented reductions to our budget which has impacted our ability to enroll new students during the 2008-2009 academic year.  Given our need to limit campus enrollment in the upcoming year and maintain access to courses and services for continuing students, CSU San Marcos does not plan to accept applications from new undergraduate students for spring 2009.

Fall 2009

The fall 2009 priority application filing period will begin on October 1, 2008.  CSU San Marcos will welcome applications during the priority period of October 1 - November 30th from upper division transfer applicants who will complete all transfer admission requirements by the end of the spring 2009 semester.

CSU Counselor Conference

The CSU will continue to host conferences around the state of California in late September and early October.  Conferences targeting community college constituents will be held in Pasadena, San Diego, Fresno and Santa Clara.  For more information and to register, visit www.calstate.edu.

Thank you for sharing this information with your colleagues and your continuing support of California State University San Marcos.  If I can share additional information, please feel free to contact me at nevans@csusm.edu.
