New CSULB Spring 2009 Engineering Admissions Update

Dear Community College Colleagues,

We have recently shared with you our difficult decision to not accept most applications for second baccalaureate or undergraduate transfer admissions for Spring 2009 due to our extremely strong enrollment demand and the challenges we all face with the uncertainty surrounding state funding for 2008-09. Because of the strong state need for nurses, we noted that we will accept applications for the Nursing program during the August 2008 filing period.

We now have decided that we will also accept applications for our Engineering programs during the August filing period. The reasons for this decision are similar to those for Nursing. There is a strong need for engineers in the workforce, our engineering programs have room, and we expect the number of qualified applicants to be relatively small. We are interested in students committed to an engineering major who have completed a baccalaureate-level calculus course or more mathematics. Some engineering applicants may transfer with as few as 12 transferable units (see web link below for details).

We recognize and regret the unfortunate impact our spring restrictions may have on students who have worked very hard to prepare to transfer to CSULB in the Spring 2009 term. Please know that we remain committed to working with you and your students to help them realize their CSULB transfer goals. Rest assured that we will accept applications for undergraduate transfer admission for Fall 2009 during the October-November 2008 filing period.

We encourage you and your students to consult the websites below for additional and future CSULB and CSU admissions updates:
